Mary Campbell awarded an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowship for the 2013-2014 year

Mary Campbell, steering committee member and Assistant Professor of Art History, was awarded an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowship for the 2013-2014 year to work on a forthcoming book for the University of Chicago Press. Her book examines the work of the Mormon photographer —sometimes pornographer — Charles Ellis Johnson. It untangles the complicated relationship between Johnson’s photographs for the Mormon church, his risqué stereoviews of young women, and the decision of Mormon authorities to relinquish polygamy.
