Katy Chiles, Associate Professor of English, published Transformable Race: Surprising Metamorphoses in the Literature of Early America with Oxford University Press.  Ranging broadly across writers of the eighteenth century such as Phillis Wheatley, Benjamin Franklin, Samson Occom, and many more, she makes a strong contribution to scholarship on emergent discourses about race, with special attention to the mutability of racial categories.
